Celebrating 30 Years of ACDS: A Joyful Reunion in Adelaide

David Day, Alistair Rendell, David Lewis

On Wednesday 2 July 2025, the Flinders University city campus in Adelaide played host to a heartwarming gathering of past and present ACDS Deans and alumni, marking 30 years of dedication to university science. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, laughter and a deep sense of shared purpose.

Brian Yates opened the lunch with a gracious welcome, expressing heartfelt thanks to all attendees for their stewardship of science over the decades. Among the distinguished guests were Bob Hill (former Dean of Science, University of Adelaide), Emily Hilder (former Director, UniSA Future Industries Institute), Jacqui Ramagge (current Executive Dean STEM at UniSA and ACDS President) and Paul Jackson (Associate Dean Research, University of Adelaide).

A special highlight was the presence of four generations of Flinders University science Deans (and heads) — John Rice, David Day, Alistair Rendell and David Lewis — who shared stories and reflections that spanned years of innovation and growth.

Though the group was small, the spirit was big. The lunch was a delightful opportunity to reconnect, reminisce and celebrate the vibrant journey of science in Australian universities. It was made even more special by the enthusiastic company of colleagues from the ACDS Teaching and Learning Leaders Conference.
