National Research Forum National Research Forum 2024 The 2024 National Research Forum will be held at LaTrobe University on 30-31 July. National Research Forum 2023 The 2023 National Research Forum was held at the University of Adelaide 16 – 17 August. The Forum was attended by 40+ delegates representing all but a couple of the ACDS 34 member universities. Presentations by Judith Zielke – ARC; Carolyn McMillen – Chief Scientist South Australia, as well as other guest speakers and presenters made a strong impact. National Research Forum 2020 The 2020 ACDS National Research Forum was held online as a series of three Zoom webinars on May 13, may 27 and June 10 on the theme Covid 19 lockdown: its impact on Australian university science research The sessions covered: Research Productivity and HDR Student Support, Internal processes to mitigate the lasting and heterogeneous impact of Covid-19, and “The return to normal”. Speakers included Professor Alastair McEwan, Convenor, Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR) and Professor Sarah Brough, Associate Dean Equity Diversity and Inclusion – Faculty of Science, UNSW . A summary of the discussions will be presented to the final session of the 2020 ACD Annual General Meeting. National Research Forum 2019 24 – 25 September 2019 – Macquarie University, Sydney The 2019 ACDS National Research Forum was held on September 24-25 in Sydney. Presenters included: Sue Thomas, CEO, Australian Research Council, Cathy Foley, Chief Scientist, CSIRO, Ian Dagley, Chief, Science Partnerships and Engagement Division, DST, Leanna Read, Carina Biotech Pty Ltd and TekCyte, Pty Ltd, Hans Bachor, Secretary, Education and Public Awareness, AAS. National Research Forum 2018 24 – 25 September 2018 – Novotel Melbourne on Collins The 2018 ACDS National Research Forum was held on September 24-25 in Melbourne. 27 Universities were represented including all but one Go8 and all but one ATN. Ten deans attended, several bringing their ADR’s and AD Graduate Students with them. Presentations by Leanne Harvey on the ARC Engagement and Impact exercise, Jens Goennerman on Working with Industry, and a panel led by Margie Atkinson on CSIRO University relations in the age of engagement and impact, made a strong impression, as did Holger Meinke’s talk on leadership of a research institute. National Research Forum 2017 25 – 26 September 2017 – Novotel Sydney Central The inaugural ACDS National Research Forum was held in Sydney in September 2017, and brought together Deans, Associate Deans Research, Research Training, and allied leadership roles to discuss industry engagement, research impact and the changing nature of the PhD. . Speakers included Prof Sue Thomas (CEO, Australian Research Council), Prof Helene Marsh (co-chair of the ACOLA Review into postgraduate research training), Prof Peter Rathjen, (VC, the University of Tasmania and soon to be VC of the University of Adelaide), Dr Stephen Bell (CEO, Qenos), A/Prof Jonathon Morris (UNSW) and Dr Karen Barry (University of Tasmania).
